When using technology in my classroom, I am guided by many principals.  One is setting clear expectations to all students.  In second grade, students need to understand exactly what is expected of them of how to use devices appropriately as well as what they should be doing on those devices.  Another is using the technology for more than just entertainment.  While there are many learning games and apps, I feel it is important to do more meaningful activities and projects that are linked to learning other than games only.  Furthermore, personalizing technology use for students is essential.  Not all students learn the same way or at the same pace, therefore, using different technology is okay.  They don’t all need to be doing the same thing.  Finally, being prepared for technology to fail is all essential.  Whether it’s the Wifi connection, device, or a failed lesson, it is important to remember that technology doesn’t work all the time.
